HOOSIER VICTORY ALLIANCE CONDEMNS EXPULSION OF BLACK TENNESSEE LAWMAKERS
Hoosier Victory Alliance condemns in the strongest possible terms the expulsion of Tennessee Reps. Justin Jones and Justin Pearson for standing in solidarity with students protesting gun violence. MAGA Republicans expelled Reps Jones and Pearson because they stood up for students and because they are Black. The third representative to speak out in support of the student protesters, White Rep Gloria Johnson was not expelled.
Make no mistake, this expulsion is a product of MAGA’s fascism, and an expression of Tennessee MAGA’s authoritarian and racist worldview. MAGA is waging a war against Americans, and Tennessee is one of the central battlegrounds. We believe we all must refuse fascism, in Tennessee, in Indiana, and across this country, and defend our freedoms to thrive, to live free from gun violence, to choose our leaders, to be our authentic selves, and to have autonomy over our own bodies.
We stand in solidarity with the thousands of Tennessee students who marched at the Tennessee Capitol to protest gun violence and the anti-life, pro-gun policies that led to the Nashville school shooting last week, and countless other mass shootings that occur daily in the United States. We call on all Hoosiers to follow the example of these Tennessee teenagers and protest mounting gun violence in our schools and our common spaces, protest the loss of bodily autonomy women and transgender individuals face, and proclaim our desire for freedom.
Please help us refuse fascism and build political infrastructure and power for freedom in Indiana by donating whatever amount you can afford to bit.ly/fundhva
