How it was: 1775 Battle of Lexington Shot Heard Round the World. How it's going: #Handsoff to Trump Regime 2025
The revolution began in Lexington, and the town is here for it again 250 years later.
I know you’ve seen the photos of the millions of people around the world saying #HandsOff to the Trump regime. Boston, New York, Los Angeles, all the big cities and many small towns around the country. In addition to the tens of thousands (hundreds of thousands?) of protesters in Boston, just a few miles away, the small town of Lexington took a stand 250 years after the first time townspeople who called themselves Minutemen heeded the call of liberty and raced to the Battle Green to fight the British Regulars on April 19, 1775.
Four hundred people gathered in the rain to say #HandsOff in Lexington, along with the thousands in the towns directly adjacent Lexington AND the huge protest in Boston.
I talked to the organizer, Jessie Steigerwald, who is a 19-year member of Town Meeting, a Lexington town-wide democratic institution that began in 1713 when Lexington was incorporated.
Standing in the rain, lining the streets of the Town Center from the Battle Green to the 300th anniversary commemorative town Clock, Lexington residents chanted and cheered as cars honked their way through town. (Incidentally, many MANY fewer Teslas than even a month ago).
The point here is less about Lexington, and more about the 3-4 millions of people who came out across the country against the Trump regime and America’s slide into authoritarianism.
This is the way. People coming out of their homes, forming community, and banding together OFFLINE. Now, we need to expand this core all over the country and continue to take action in real life, not just online.
This week, I’ll have a podcast episode with
coming out on Tuesday, where we talk about using our own words instead of the regime’s so we’re on our own ground and not theirs. And I’m hoping to have a LIVE with on the regime’s erasure of history.Last week began with Cory Booker holding the Senate floor for 25 hours to call us all to action to redeem the American dream. And this last weekend brought people out of their homes. Now let’s keep going and spreading the word, because the legacy media isn’t doing it. No mention of the protests on the cover of the NY Times (NO MENTION!), below the fold on WaPo, nothing on MSNBC.com. CNN shows protesting Houthis but not protesting Americans. So, those of us with platforms and those of us with friends or family need to be spreading the word.
Oh, and we need to be calling the budget MAGA Murder Budget, and the tariffs MAGA Murder Taxes, and I’ll be writing more about that this week too. Don’t forget to read/watch
and so many more independent creators.
I was there too! 😉
MSNBC did cover the protests on at least two of their shows. I only watched two on the 5th so they probably had more coverage than that.
