Preview for Next Week's Podcast: Simon Rosenberg
I talked to Simon Rosenberg for an episode of What the Gerrymander dropping Monday May 22
This week, my recommendations on newsletters, blogs, and podcasts to pay attention to:
Of course, I recommend listening to What the Gerrymander Podcast for more info on MAGA’s war on Americans and how to fight against it. Also sprinkled in are conversations about patriotism, fascism, hope (hope with a plan, or hope as an action verb), tiktok, genZ, and much more. This first season will run through mid June, and we’ll pick up again in September, giving you plenty of time to catch up on episodes.
Simon Rosenberg’s Hopium Chronicles for ways we can all help save Democracy and information to help you talk to your friends, families, and acquaintances.
Chop Wood Carry Water. I interviewed Jess on the podcast. Daily actions to take to save democracy.
Heather Cox Richardson’s Letters from an American which puts the news into historical context. If anyone has a connection to HCR, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have her on the podcast. She also has an awesome podcast Now and Then with Yale history professor Joanne Freeman, which I also highly recommend. Joanne Freeman would be amazing for the pod also!
Popular Info by Judd Legum. Legum is an independent journalist who writes really influential pieces: “News for People Who Give a Damn.” This is the most important stuff happening in the US today. I wouldn’t even dream of getting him on the pod…he’s (along with HCR and Joanne Freeman) are in the stratosphere while I’m here on the ground. But still, if anyone has a connection, I wouldn’t say no (yes, that’s huge understatement).
A couple of very worthwhile follows on Twitter: @AmericanStudier @angrystaffer @brynntannehill @eladnehorai . These people all have substacks too:
That’s it for today. I’m watching news on whether MAGA will default on America or whether Biden can save the world and American economy, 8 million jobs, the stock market, and life as we know it (I’m betting on him b/c he hasn’t really let us down yet!)
