SCENES FROM LEXINGTON, MA ON THE 250TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SHOT HEARD ROUND THE WORLD
My hometown....
Here are a couple of scenes from last night’s Paul Revere reenactment and this mornings reenactment of the Battle of Lexington.
Things to keep in mind.
This battle was neither the beginning nor the end of the conflict. It followed at least 5 years of successively more burdensome taxes, laws, and oppression (for White colonists…Black Americans remained enslaved or second class).
After the battles at Lexington and Concord (down the road a couple miles), the war for American independence lasted another 7 years. And the Constitution wouldn’t be ratified for another 13 years. A reminder that many points in time are significant in hindsight, or even recognizable in the moment, but we don’t know what the future holds, so we need to keep fighting for what’s right...every day.
Fights for freedom don’t just happen in the past with fancy costumes. They’re decisions and actions we all take every day.

It’s really cool to live in the town where so much happened 250 years ago, and its also crucial to make decisions wherever we are to pursue freedom for all of us from wherever we live.
