I had a great conversation with Tara McGowan, publisher of COURIER, about the necessity of independent media and figuring out how to pay for it, how we need leaders who can live up to the moment (and who are not in Congress right now), and why the midterms are necessary but not sufficient to restore democracy. As Americans, we usually view the event horizon in hours, days, or at most, months. We need to learn to think in multi-year chunks and decades and plan for the country we want to live in.
