A big thanks to independent journalist
of for her conversation about the Epstein survivor press conference, discussion of the regime’s attempt to control the narrative, what it was like being a Ukranian growing up in Germany, going to school in the Netherlands and the United States, becoming nationalized as a US Citizen.I have a couple of thoughts about today’s press conference. I think the women who spoke—survivors of Epstein and his cronies—were astoundingly courageous. They all called for the release of the files and noted that they were going to start compiling a list of all the men who raped them when they were children.
Of course, we need to make sure that we remember that these now-adult women were teenagers when they were first sexually molested. And if we just believed them, there would be no need for external files to validate their claims. But the pressure is rising on members of Congress to force a release of the files.
Also, the Trump regime tried a number of tactics to win the news cycle and even physically drown out the survivors. First, the regime bombed a Venezuelan boat last night that it claimed had drugs aboard, but didn’t move to inderdict or investigate. It was tantamount to a declaration of war against Venezuala, and we’ll see where that goes. Next, Trump held a competing press conference in the White House calling all of the Epstein situation a hoax, which is obviously BS, and didn’t deter any news outlet except Fox from reporting. And, in an effort to literally drown out the voices of the survivors, the White House scrambled fighter jets to fly over DC. Seems like they really didn’t want those women to speak up and be heard.
I’m a bit scared for these survivors who came forward. This regime is ruthless, and I hope the women remain safe as the process plays out.
